There were plenty (Було багато) of princesses (принцес), but it was difficult (але було важко) to find out (з'ясувати) whether they were real ones (чи справжні вони). There was always (У них було завжди) something (щось) about them that was not as it should be (не так, як мало б бути). So he came home again (Тож він повернувся додому) and was sad (і був сумний), for he would have liked (бо йому так хотілося) very much (сильно) to have a real princess (мати справжню принцесу). One evening (Одного вечора) a terrible storm (жахлива негода) came on (почалася); there was thunder (гримів грім) and lightning (спалахували блискавки), and the rain (а дощ) poured down in torrents (лив як з відра).
