Once upon a time (Колись давно), there lived (жила-була) a sweet little girl (мила маленька дівчинка) whom everyone adored (яку всі любили). Her grandmother (Її бабуся) gave her (подарувала їй) a red velvet riding hood (червоний оксамитовий чепчик). The girl (Дівчинка) wore it so often (носила його так часто) and so happily (і з таким задоволенням) that everyone called her "Little Red Riding Hood" (що всі називали її Червоною Шапочкою).

- "I would be happy to (Я буду рада (це зробити))," replied Little Red Riding Hood (відповіла Червона Шапочка).

One day her mother said to her:

- "Little Red Riding Hood, please visit your grandmother. She is sick and weak. I will give you a basket with a cake and a bottle of wine. Grandmother will be pleased."

- "I would be happy to," replied Little Red Riding Hood.

But the grandmother lived (Але бабуся жила) out in the forest (поза селом в лісі), half an hour (півгодини) walk from the village (ходьби/ відстані від села). When Little Red Riding Hood (Коли Червона Шапочка) entered the forest (зайшла в ліс), she met the wolf (вона зустріла вовка). Little Red Riding Hood (Червона Шапочка) didn't know (не знала) he was evil (що він злий) and wasn't afraid of him (і не боялася його).

- "Good day, what's your name? (Доброго дня, як тебе звати?)" he asked (він запитав).

- "My name is Little Red Riding Hood (Мене звуть Червона Шапочка)," said the girl (сказала дівчинка).

But the grandmother lived out in the forest, half an hour walk from the village. When Little Red Riding Hood entered the forest, she met the wolf. Little Red Riding Hood didn't know he was evil and wasn't afraid of him.

- "Good day, what's your name?" he asked.

- "My name is Little Red Riding Hood," said the girl.

- "Cake and wine (Пиріг і вино), so that grandmother will get well soon (щоб бабуся видужувала швидше)."

- "Where does your grandmother live? (Де твоя бабуся живе?)"

- "Where are you going, Little Red Riding Hood?" asked the wolf.

- "To my grandmother," answered Little Red Riding Hood.

- "What are you carrying in your basket?" asked the wolf.

- "Cake and wine, so that grandmother will get well soon."

- "Where does your grandmother live?"

The wolf thought (Вовк подумав), "the girl (Дівчинка) would taste even better (буде смакувати ще краще) than the old woman (ніж стара жінка/ баба). You must come up with a plan (Ти мусиш придумати план) so you can eat them both (щоб з’їсти їх обох)."

- "Little Red Riding Hood (Червона Шапочка), look (подивись) how beautiful it is in the forest (як гарно в лісі). Don't you want (Не хочеш) to pick your grandmother a beautiful bouquet of flowers? (нарвати для бабусі гарний букет квітів?)"

- "A good quarter of an hour further into the forest, under the three large oaks, is her house," said Little Red Riding Hood.

The wolf thought, "the girl would taste even better than the old woman. You must come up with a plan so you can eat them both."

- "Little Red Riding Hood, look how beautiful it is in the forest. Don't you want to pick your grandmother a beautiful bouquet of flowers?“

Little Red Riding Hood saw (Червона Шапочка побачила) the beautiful flowers (die schönen Blumen) everywhere in the forest (навколо в лісі) and began picking them (і почала зривати їх). Meanwhile (При цьому) she forgot (вона забула) about time and her grandmother (про час і свою бабусю).

The wolf ran quickly (Вовк побіг дуже швидко) to grandmother's house (до бабусиної хати). He knocked on the door (Він постукав у двері).

"Who is it? (Хто там?)" asked the grandmother (спитала бабуся).

"It's me, Little Red Riding Hood (Це я, Червона Шапочка). I've brought wine and cake (Я принесла вино і пиріг). Open up! (Відчиняй!)" answered the wolf (відповів вовк) in a gentle voice (лагідним голосом).

Little Red Riding Hood saw the beautiful flowers everywhere in the forest and began picking them. Meanwhile, she forgot about time and her grandmother.

The wolf ran quickly to grandmother's house. He knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" asked the grandmother.

"It's me, Little Red Riding Hood. I've brought wine and cake. Open up!" answered the wolf in a gentle voice.

The wolf opened the door (Вовк відкрив двері), went straight to Grandmother's bed (пішов прямо до ліжка бабусі), and swallowed her (та проковтнув її). Then he put on her clothes (Тоді він одягнув її одяг), lay down in her bed (ліг у її ліжко), and waited (та чекав).

Little Red Riding Hood picked (Червона Шапочка нарвала) as many flowers (так багато квітів) as she could carry (скільки змогла нести) and ran to Grandmother (і побігла до бабусі).

- "Just press the handle," cried Grandmother, "I'm too weak to get up."

The wolf opened the door, went straight to Grandmother's bed, and swallowed her. Then he put on her clothes, lay down in her bed, and waited.

Little Red Riding Hood picked as many flowers as she could carry and ran to Grandmother.

- "Grandma, why do you have such big ears? (Бабуся, чому ти маєш такі великі вуха?)" asked the girl (запитала дівчинка).

-"So I can hear you better (Щоб я могла чути тебе краще )," answered Wolf (відповів Вовк).

-"Grandma, why do you have such big eyes? (Бабуся, чому у тебе такі великі очі?)"

-"Good day, dear Grandma!" called Little Red Riding Hood, but received no answer.

Then she went to the bed. There laid Grandmother, her cap pulled down low over her face, looking somewhat strange.

-"Grandma, why do you have such big ears?" asked the girl.

-"So I can hear you better," answered Wolf.

-"Grandma, why do you have such big eyes?"

-"So I can eat you better (Щоб я могла зжерти тебе краще )." As soon as the wolf said that (Як тільки вовк це сказав), he jumped out of bed (він скочив з ліжка) and swallowed up poor Little Red Riding Hood (і проковтнув бідолашну Червону Шапочку).

-"So I can see you better."

-"Grandma, why do you have such big hands?"

-"So I can grab you better."

-"But, Grandma, why do you have such a huge mouth?"

-"So I can eat you better." As soon as the wolf said that, he jumped out of bed and swallowed up poor Little Red Riding Hood.

I would better ask (То я краще спитаю) if she is okay (чи вона в порядку) He entered the house (Він зайшов у хату) and saw (і побачив) that the wolf was lying in bed (що вовк лежить у ліжку). At first, he wanted to shoot the wolf (Перш він хтів застрелити вовка), but then he remembered (проте він згадав) that the wolf might have eaten the grandmother (що вовк майбуть з‘їв бабусю).

Then he laid back in bed, fell asleep, and began to snore loudly.

The hunter was just passing by the house and thought, "How that old woman snores! I would better ask if she is okay." He entered the house and saw that the wolf was lying in bed. At first, he wanted to shoot the wolf, but then he remembered that the wolf might have eaten the grandmother.

The wolf ran out of the house (Вовк вибіг із хати) and was never seen again (і більше його ніхто не бачив).

The hunter, the grandmother, and Little Red Riding Hood ate the delicious cake together.
